What is the EVO ICL?

The EVO ICL is an additive lens implanted in your eye behind the iris and in front of your natural lens. The ICL is made of a biocompatible material called collamer that works in natural harmony with the chemistry of your eye.

Because it's biocompatible, the EVO ICL is an excellent choice for patients with dry eyes who may not qualify for other vision correction procedures like LASIK. EVO does not cause dry eyes, making it far more comfortable as you start your visual freedom journey.

The EVO ICL can correct nearsightedness from -3.00 diopters to -20.0 diopters, along with 1.0 to 4.0 diopters of astigmatism.

How Does the EVO ICL Work?

The EVO ICL provides patients with crisp, clear vision in sharp, vibrant depth and dimension. You'll see far better than you ever could with glasses or contact lenses, but the EVO ICL also provides patients with some of the best vision compared to other vision procedures.

The EVO ICL uses an additive lens to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. Unlike other vision correction procedures like LASIK, the EVO ICL does not involve reshaping or removing any tissue from the cornea to correct your vision.

Instead, the collamer ICL is implanted into your eye, which sits in front of your natural lens. You will not have your natural lens removed, as in cataract surgery. Many patients report almost immediate improvement in their vision after having the EVO ICL implanted in their eye.

Who is a Good Candidate for the EVO ICL?

Although there's a lot to love about the EVO ICL, it's not a vision correction procedure suitable for everyone. But who is a good candidate for the EVO ICL?

You may be a good candidate if:

The only way to find out if you're a good candidate for the EVO ICL is to schedule a consultation at Rosenthal Eye Surgery!

What Can I Expect During the EVO ICL Procedure?

Before having the EVO ICL inserted into your eye, you'll have an appointment with Dr. Rosenthal. You'll have your eyes tested and measured during this appointment to ensure you're a good candidate.

If you are, you'll learn a little about what to expect during the procedure and the recovery process. On the day of your EVO ICL procedure, you'll receive numbing eye drops to dilate your eyes and ensure you won't feel any pain.

After the numbing drops spread over the surface of your eye, Dr. Rosenthal will begin by creating a small incision at the base of your cornea. He will then fold and insert the EVO ICL through this incision.

After inserting the ICL, it can be unfolded and inserted into place. Dr. Rosenthal will make any necessary adjustments to ensure the EVO ICL is in the proper position in your eye. Once the EVO ICL is in the right place, the procedure is over!

Many patients start experiencing improved vision almost instantly, experiencing a brand new way of seeing the world. Dr. Rosenthal will prescribe eye drops to help aid in healing, including those to reduce inflammation and prevent infection.

Because of the anesthetic eye drops, you cannot drive yourself home. Make sure you have a trusted friend or family member that can safely get you back home. Dr. Rosenthal will let you know when you're allowed to drive again. Undergoing the EVO ICL procedure only takes about twenty to thirty minutes!

Patients who have thin corneas or experience routine dry eyes who have been told they are not a candidate for LASIK or PRK might just be eligible for the EVO ICL vision correction procedure. Request a consultation to learn more.

What is the Recovery Process Like After the EVO ICL?

There's no reason to worry about an extended or lengthy recovery after the EVO ICL. Most patients only need about a day or two and only experience minimal side effects, if any at all.

Many patients start noticing almost immediate visual improvement that continues improving in the coming days and weeks after the procedure. An essential component of recovery after the EVO ICL is ensuring you attend all follow-up appointments.

You'll have to attend your first one the day after your procedure to ensure there are no complications and that your vision is where it should be. You'll need to continue attending follow-up appointments with Dr. Rosenthal in the months after having the EVO ICL implanted.

Although the EVO ICL is a permanent vision correction procedure, you can always choose to have it removed at any time. The EVO ICL is the only reversible vision correction procedure, making it an excellent choice for patients seeking peace of mind.

It's also great if you need to have it removed later on due to cataract surgery, where it's replaced with an intraocular lens. After having the EVO ICL inserted in your eye, nobody will know it's there except for you. It's virtually invisible, and once implanted, you won't be able to feel it, either.
